Crazy Cooking Stories... And decisions....

I was reading my friend Jennifer's blog this morning and read her cooking disaster drama and it made me laugh and think of my funny stories that I have had.. I tend to be a blonde in the kitchen! :)

You should check out her story... Can somoene please tell me how to make the fancy link that says go here and it's the link? :)

I have several stories in the kitchen that have made me want to throw in the apron and call it quits! Growing up, my mom kept us in the kitchen "training us for marriage." We had food night at church one Wednesday and my mom gave me specific instructions. She had already made the casserole and told me to stick it in the oven at 4:30.... Well, I did just that... We arrived at church and they began to dig into my mom's delish casserole and they noticed this substance on top.... What could it have been... Seran wrap! Who knew that stuff would melt! :)

Dustin and I had been married for about 6 months or so and I knew how much he LOVED shogun as well as I did! So, I decide one night that I'm going to use all of my fun kitchen stuff and be a shogun chef for Dustin! I get all of my ingredients out... Yes, I even used a cookie sheet to put my food on (that way it really seemed like we were really there). I had cut up little carrotts to put in my rice along with minced onions! I'm telling you, I was going all out.. Crackin my eggs all fancy and then... I begin cooking my rice, my meat, and veggies.. I didn't do the vodka in the onion trick, but man I was stylin and profilin' in the kitchen! I anxiously ask Dustin to come in and try a bite of the rice to see if I seasoned it just right... CRUNCH! I didn't know they steamed the rice first....

About a year ago, we were headed over to Dustin's parent's house for the weekend! I love to win people over with sweets! My mom always says a way to a man's heart is thru his tummy! :) My method seems to fail... haha! So, I decided I was going to bake my sisters FAMOUS cookies! I realized halfway thru that I didn't have any vanilla, so I run to the store and get some (which annoys me to no end not having all of my ingredients!) I get back and I'm reading the instructions, it says use parchment paper on the cookie sheet. Well, I didn't have that either, so I thought, I'm sure wax paper is the same, so I used that... My cookie dough looks a little runny... The instructions said to use a lb of unsalted butter... Well, I assumed that my low fat/calorie margerine from a tub would work.... Even with the runnyness of my dough, I continued on! I placed my everyso soupy dough on the cookie sheet, placed it in the oven and 3 minutes later my smoke alarms are blaring at me! I open the oven to see that my cookies are blazing! My wax paper had caught on fire! After all of that work, I had charred cookies! I was broken hearted! :( We made a stop by Harp's to buy a frozen pie! It was great!

Oh the stories could go on for days and days! I'm normally pretty decent in the kitchen, but under pressure, it never fails! Or when I have my blonde moments!

Hope this makes you feel a little better Jen! :)
Okay, I have two things I need anyone and everyone's opinion on!

1. When buying a house, does having a fireplace make or break a deal? Gas or wood burning? Comparing two houses that are almost identical!

*Work related question!*

2. It's time to highlite my hair again and I'm having a really hard time deciding if I should continue the damaging never ending cycle or if I should go Natural! With my sis being a hair stylist, I have had product on my hair since I was 13, that's 10 years of dying and bleaching my hair! Honest opinions are greatly appreciated! I tend to go back and forth. This first pic was from last summer and the bottom pic is this summer... I want to look professional, but stylish. Along with the color that fits me the best! This is an important decision! :)

The fire place WAS NOT a deal breaker for us when we got the house. Yes!!! I would love to have one now and kind of regret not looking for a house with one.

I don't know about the hair. I go back and fourth with the highlights and full color. Right now, ANYTHING to cover the gray is my answer.

Found your blog while wandering around in the blog world...

I don't think the fireplace is a deal breaker. Sure it'd be nice to have one, but do you really want to maintain it if you do use it...or even if you dont use it.

The hair... I decided to go back to natural in April and I think it was my best decision yet. I think there are way too many blondes out there and that healthy brown hair looks better. I really like your hair in those pictures - both of them. But for me, it's back to brown.

Thank you for the comment and the prayers! It really does mean a lot to me and I need all the prayers for this that I can get! I really do hope that everything turns out and we can establish a mother-daughter relationship.

You made me feel so much better! I'm not alone in the kitchen distress department! I like the blonde better...looks so young and stylish! As for the fireplace, my last house had a wood burning and our new house has gas fireplace. I prefer gas because it's easier and you don't have to try to find wood all the time and (the main reason I prefer gas) is that when you're bringing in wood, small wood particles would fall on the carpet...I was literally vacuuming everyday because there was bark on the carpet! Now...all I have to do is turn on a switch!!

The fireplace would depend on how dangerous it could be for little ones...if that's in the future for you....for me, i'd pass on it, bc I think I'd not use it when the kids were small, and then, what would be the point in having it? We do have a gas insert that we use a little and it's nice to have--but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for sure--

your hair is cute either way--the brown, I think, makes you look more professional....but that's just me. I'm a brunette, so maybe that's why I like it ;-)

We definitely wanted a house with a wood burning fireplace. We had gas at our old house and it was just such a waste. Wood heats the entire house and saves money!!!

I am leaning toward brunette (I'm also going all brown for the winter). I think it looks really good with your skin coloring

Ha, I'm loving the crunchy rice story! ;-) As for how to "hyperlink"...when you are in the screen for a new post, you will see a little button that looks like the links in a chain.

Well, click on that...and then either write in or copy in the web address of the link that you want and save.

Finito! Fancy blog linking!

Those cooking stories are a goot!

I love a gas buring fireplace, only beacause I want to hang stockings at Christmas. Ha, ha!

I love you as a blonde. But I love you any old way. You are so pretty, it doesn't matter.

To link right on your blog, highlite the word, and click on the little icon that looks like a green loopy thing. It will ask you to type a link that starts with "http://..." I copy and paste the site I want my friends to go to and put it right there.

Good luck! : )

Hey Suzette,
I am going to share how to make a link because I finally figured it out and felt so proud. when you're posting, you highlight the word you want to link. Then you click on the chain link icon- i think it is beside the icon where you upload the pic. Then you just type in the website. wa la!

I think your hair will look good either way. I bet you'll look more like heather when it is darker.

We have had both fireplaces. We never use the gas. We actually heat most of the time with wood in the winter which saves a lot, but I agree, it is messy and your husband has to be into cutting and shopping wood in summer/fall to get ready.

Girl! You look awesome with both hair colors! My sis-in-law does my hair so I'm always doing stuff to mine too! We joke and say our hair is "fried, dyed, and laid aside!!" hahaa The hair color doesn't matter on you, you're BEAUTIFUL either way.
